Database

This subsection is not about the ROM database itself, it explains the icons that are used to describe ROM images in the Pick ROM and Load ROM dialogs.

These icons indicate whether a ROM image could be identified, and what kind of ROM it is:

This file could be a ROM image for the selected system, but it could not be verified.
This file is (most likely) a ROM image for the selected system. It's in the database, or it could be identified based on the file content.
This ROM image is for a related system, it's not sure to work on the selected system.
This is a system ROM file.

If an file is in the database, a light bulb in the bottom right corner indicates the quality of the image:

This image is not known to be of inferior quality. This does not mean that it is a good dump!
This image is not identical to the original for some reason (e.g. an overdump, or an image that has been modified), but it is probably good enough to work. Two special cases are particularly marked:
This is some sort of hack or fix.
A trainer has been added.
This is a bad image, e.g. an underdump or a corrupted file.

In some cases, another light bulb in the bottom left corner provides some additional information on the circumstances of the release:

This ROM was not released as a commercial product; it might be PD or some home-brew game.
This is a demo.
The image contains a version of the software that is older than the first official release, e.g. a prototype or a beta.
The ROM contains a compilation of programs, or was part of a compilation.
This image is a dump of one particular part of the original ROM.
This is an image of an unlicensed game or a pirate release.

Finally, information about the language of the program may be provided:

The software is in the language indicated by the flag (Portuguese in this example). This information is only given if (1) the language is not English, and (2) the language is used to a significant extent.
The ROM has been translated to the language indicated by the flag.
